Born and raised in a communist nation
Ling was born in the city of Cheng Du in southern China. She began her acting career at age 14, later enlisting In the Chinese People's Liberation Army where she was part of a performance troupe that entertained soldiers stationed in Tibet. She was a Chinese movies star before age 18.

Ling was one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World 1998."

Who is Bruce Lee?
On the set of the movie "The Crow," Bai Ling explained to Brandon Lee she had never heard of his father, Bruce Lee. However, as her conversation wtih Brandon continued, Ling realizes she is very familiar with his father, but only by his Chinese name 李小龍, not his American name.
